![]() Your Christmas gifts say a lot about how you feel about your staff.Gift-giving in the workplace can be challenging, especially when finding the right gift that shows appreciation and doesn’t feel awkward or impersonal. This isn’t the time to jump over a low gift-giving bar. It doesn’t cost anything, and public affirmation can mean so much more than anything you could buy for them! Invest Time into Church Staff Christmas Gifts Talk about what makes them so important to the church and to you. Public affirmationĭon’t have much of a budget but you want to do something especially meaningful? You can take time on successive Sunday mornings to focus on a few staff members. I’m guessing everyone on your staff could benefit from an hour with a masseuse. So many church staff members (women and men alike) could use a spa day, but they would never treat themselves to one. And if you make a tradition of giving out these special Christmas gifts every year, it motivates your current volunteers to continue helping out-they don’t want to miss next year’s hoodies! 9. A custom t-shirt doubles as an advertisement for potential volunteers who want to get in on the action. If you pull this off well, you’ll create a sense of camaraderie among your staff, but there are some not-so-obvious benefits, too. The idea is that these are “limited-edition” gifts that you can only get by being a member of your church’s epic team. The one thing these shouldn’t be is normal gear that they could get anywhere. Maybe it’s a one-off church design, or maybe it’s a team-related wearable (e.g., shirts specifically for the hospitality team). Custom wearablesĪ fun idea is to create special shirts, jackets, or fleeces for your staff. This could be the latest tablet model from their favorite brand, a smartwatch, or any other emerging gadgetry. Has someone gone above and beyond this year?Ī brand-new digital device can make a meaningful thank-you Christmas gift. Why not work at finding the ideal study or devotional Bible for each individual? 7. There are so many great choices out there. Want to make it extra meaningful? Don’t get your staff all the same Bible. Want a good idea that isn’t going to require a lot of out-of-pocket expense? Why not gift your staff with a day or even a week off to use at their discretion? (The week between Christmas and New Years would be especially appreciated.) 6. If your church has a photographer (or there are some great local photographers in your town), paying for some family portraits can be a blessing for your staff and these artisans! 5. Family portraitsĪ professionally done family portrait is one of those things that everyone would love, but a lot of people can’t justify the expense. For many churches, burned out staff leads to decline over time as the overall church culture suffers. Helping staff members stay rested and encouraging team bonding isn’t a top priority for many churches and that can cause staff burnout. With a modicum of preparation, you can put together an incredible team-building experience. If your staff is a little smaller, Airbnb can be a way to create a memorable but affordable time. Putting together a staff retreat where you and the team can get away is a wonderful idea. Gift cards to restaurants, movie theaters, or other local haunts are helpful to ensure that your staff is using your Christmas gifts to pamper themselves and relax. This can be a great gift-especially when it’s paired with #2. It can feel like getting a sitter for a night out is a hard-to-justify luxury. When many parents of young kids line up childcare, it’s to fulfill an obligation. Here are ten suggestions to help you get your creative gift-giving juices flowing: 1. But it can be hard to think of meaningful gifts that aren’t super obvious. It’s important to recognize and thank your staff members as often as possible, and Christmas gifts are a festive way to do that.

I have had to turn to QB community for some support and am still totally confused. I am also trying, at the same time, to find a working solution for my business and to support my clients whilst I continue to try to provide a livelihood. I have reached out directly to Intuit for some kind of explanation of the policy. I have received no response at all from QB to my questions or concerns. Please understand my problems at this stage. This is the sort of sensible process that businesses should follow Intuit seem to have no clue what is involved here. After getting over the stress of January tax returns that gives us just 4 months to research suitable alternative products, demo them, plan and manage a migration and allow time to shadow data entry in the new product. They have a June year end so will want to migrate to a new product for 1st July 2022 as it is never sensible to migrate mid-year. I have a client who I got on to Desktop 18 months ago and they love it. You have given us a pathetic 15 month window to deal with this which is not enough. The fact that Intuit seem to think it is acceptable that they force everyone to export their data out at that date is ridiculous and shows how little they care about their customers. We seem in desperate need of an official email from Intuit explaining with absolute certainty what is happening from 1st February 2023. Hi Ashleigh1, its no wonder people like Fiat Lux are trying to offer up support and considering alternatives given that Intuit are sending massively mixed messages on the matter. ![]() Another option, utilize a trial account of QB Online and migrate your QB Desktop file into it to file your VAT return anytime you need. The question is why they chose to end support for QBD 2021 in January 2023 instead of May 2024 like QBD 2021 US and CA. (a) Similar to QB Online, as long as they charge a fee, they will support the QBD version. Are you confident of that? And presumably we would still be able to use bridging software (if still allowed by Cowan I would have expected that to be the case but could not find out for sure. And unfortunately, many of these health problems also afflict the Lab Boxer mix, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for some of the most common health issues. The Boxer and Labrador Retriever is a fairly healthy dog breed, but they do experience a number of common health problems. Labrador Retriever Boxers are susceptible to a few health problems. So although their look will remain rather consistent, there will still be differences in traits that will make your canine especially unique!ģ. Some Boxadors may have webbed digits like Labrador Retriever do, but others will lack them, as their Boxer parent does. ![]() Generally, Lab Boxer mixes exhibit the classic Boxer face, and many have the upright, chest-out posture the dog breed is also known for, but their coat patterns, coat colors, hair length, and body shape are often more reminiscent of Labrador Retrievers. So if you like the look of this particular pup, you can rest assured that your dog will likely look similar. Obviously, each animal is an individual, and there are exceptions abound, but the majority of Boxer Lab Mixes have a relatively characteristic build and look. However, Boxadors are a bit unique in this regard, as they look quite a bit like a 50-50 mix of the parent breeds. Some common mixed-breed dogs resemble one of their parents or the other. Boxer Lab mixes typically resemble both of their parents. You can also run into these types of “accidental” Boxadors at shelters, where you can rescue and adopt them for a nominal fee.Īlthough it may be more difficult to find an “accidental” Boxer Lab Mix puppy than by simply going to the dog breeder, some owners find more reward in adopting a puppy from a shelter than from a breeder. These puppies can also make great pets, and they’ll usually be offered for free or for a relatively low price. On the other hand, some Boxer Lab Mix dogs result from unintended breedings. They then go on to sell these dogs to good families. So, they deliberately set out to obtain good parents of each breed and then pair them deliberately to create Boxadors. ![]() “Though science has been slow to acknowledge it, humans are always to some degree both awake and asleep,” he says. When you’re struggling with insomnia, Naiman says, it’s important to understand something that the spiritual traditions teach-that waking and sleeping (as well as dreaming) are natural states of consciousness that coexist in the mind at all times. Add a couple of hundred years, a lot of electricity, artificial light, and technology, and here we are: overstimulated, overworked, and vastly underslept. That is, as something you could turn on and off with the flick of a switch. We started treating our bodies like machines.” “Suddenly, people were working 12- or 14-hour days, and machines were the new model. So what happened? “The Industrial Revolution changed everything,” he explains. I think of the yin-yang symbol: There was a little bit of light in the dark, and dark in the light.” “Conversely, people also regularly napped in the middle of the day. “If you look at all of the documentation on sleep recorded from 1500 to 1830, you find that people typically did wake in the middle of the night-they had a little ‘night watch’ and used that time to pray, or meditate, or talk quietly, and then they went back to sleep,” Naiman says. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, night waking was considered normal, explains Rubin Naiman, PhD, a clinical psychologist and sleep therapist who draws on spiritual teachings from yoga and other traditions in his sleep retreats and audio programs including The Yoga of Sleep. We think our job at night is to black out.īut in fact, this is a relatively new way of thinking about sleep. Perhaps this perception explains why so many of us are willing to reach for a sleeping pill. Like most Westerners, I tend to think of “awake” and “asleep” as polar opposites, and that you can have one only at the expense of the other. ![]() My first lesson was about the nature of sleep. And so I reached out to teachers and sleep experts who could offer insights, tools, and practices to help me get to the source of my problems, and, hopefully, to find a solution. I needed to look deeper into yoga’s teachings, beyond relaxation practices, and find help facing this crazy insomnia monster instead of running away from it. I could push away sleeplessness all I wanted, but here it still would be. Recently, after three especially difficult sleepless nights, I realized that I couldn’t overpower my hyperalert and anxious state, or pound my mind into sleep through force of will. That’s hardly the sort of peaceful attitude that promotes sleep, which is probably why, in spite of all of the medications, herbal remedies, sleep-hygiene tips, and aromatherapy I tried, I never found a strategy that really worked. ![]() I even brought that attitude to my yoga practice, expecting it to work like a magic weapon to knock me unconscious. I was warlike in my efforts to win the battle. ![]() I always treated it like an unwanted houseguest, greeting it with anxiety and open hostility. Wakefulness has been knocking on my door since my early teens, usually during times of stress and strain. It’s enough to keep you up at night! I know because I’ve been there-for like, the last 30 years. Regular sleep deficits have been associated with high blood pressure, type II diabetes, heart disease, depression, cancer, obesity, and even increased risk of death. These medications can have side effects, like any drug, and their effectiveness is questionable at best, but we’re willing to stomach them because not sleeping is more harmful than simply feeling lousy the next day. Some 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from insomnia, according to the latest count by the Centers for Disease Control, and the prevalence of sleep medication bears them out: Last year, about 60 million prescriptions were written for sleep aids. If you’ve struggled with sleeplessness, you’re in good company. You’re suffering from insomnia, and peace of mind is beyond your grasp-and so, at least for the moment, are all of the mind-body-spirit benefits that sleep confers. If you’re thinking about it when you’d rather be dreaming, there’s a good chance you don’t. Heading out the door? Read this article on the new Outside+ app available now on iOS devices for members! ![]() A rabbinic classic known as the Mishnah, compiled about 200 A.D., also shows that Hebrew continued to be used as a literary medium. The many Hebrew documents among the Dead Sea Scrolls easily provide the evidence. ![]() One leading specialist, Joseph Fitzmyer of The Catholic University in Washington, D.C., has summarized the situation this way: Aramaic was the most commonly spoken language in first-century Palestine Greek was a second language to many Palestinian Jews, but “pockets of Palestinian Jews used Hebrew, even though its use was not widespread.” 11īut quite apart from whether Hebrew was widely used as a spoken language in first-century Palestine, it seems clear that it was used as a literary medium. A spate of studies soon appeared in which a number of prominent scholars concluded that Jesus indeed spoke Hebrew or that the sayings of Jesus and other traditional materials were preserved in Hebrew and that Hebrew served as a primitive base for the canonical Gospels. In 1954 the Scandinavian Semitist Harris Birkeland published his seminal book entitled The Language of Jesus, 9 which collected the evidence and reopened the debate as to what language Jesus spoke. Jesus, it is said, spoke Aramaic, not Hebrew. Support for this position is sometimes sought in the supposed fact that Hebrew was no longer in use as a vernacular in first-century Palestine, but had been replaced by Aramaic. The argument that Matthew originally wrote in Aramaic, rather than Hebrew, was made as early as the 16th century. both languages, Hebrew and Aramaic, also used the same script, so that by that time they even looked alike. Both languages share many words, either in an exact or similar form, and have a similar grammar there are of course many differences as well, both in vocabulary and grammar, as one would expect in different though cognate languages. The two languages are related to each other roughly like Spanish and French. Some scholars have argued that when Papias said “Hebrew” he really meant “Aramaic.” 7 The difference between Aramaic and Hebrew is not great. Whether these ancient authors were referring to Hebrew or Aramaic, however, is not entirely clear. in Hierapolis in Asia Minor (he was bishop of Hierapolis), wrote that “Matthew arranged the oracles in the Hebrew language and each interpreted them as best he could.” 1 Many other early Christian writers-like Irenaeus, 2 Origen, 3 Eusebius, 4 Epiphanius 5 and Jerome 6-assert that Matthew wrote in Hebrew. One early Christian writer named Papias, who lived between about 60 and 130 A.D. But no original Hebrew or Aramaic manuscripts of the Gospels have ever been recovered. Still others have contended that the Gospels were written in Greek, but that their authors used collections of Aramaic or Hebrew sayings or traditions then extant but now lost. Others have argued that one or more of the Gospels were written in Aramaic and then translated into Greek. Some indeed have suggested that one or more of the Gospels were originally written in Hebrew and then translated into Greek. Were the canonical Gospels originally written in Greek? Over the centuries, scholars have argued various positions. By contrast, what Christians call the Old Testament-the Hebrew Bible-was written in Hebrew, with a few short sections in a sister language called Aramaic. The Gospels we use today-in English or in other 016languages-are translations from old Greek manuscripts. Until now, the four canonical Gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John-have come down to us only in Greek. But before explaining how this can be done, let me set the stage with a little background. Indeed, it is now possible to recover much of this original Hebrew composition from an extant manuscript. New evidence indicates that the Gospel of Matthew was an original Hebrew composition.
